CHEAP POWER FOR FISH FINDER
Here is the set up for my portable fish finder. I have a small 14ft. vee bottom fishing boat. I am very limited for space in the back end with gas can and anchor. I do NOT have room for a regular 12 volt battery. I came up with a cheap way to power the fish finder and save space at the same time
Buy 2 small 6 volt flashlight batteries, at a local discount store. I got mine for about $3 each. Next tape them together, and then wire them in series to provide a 12 VOLT supply. Connect the power cord to the fish finder as with a normal hook up. This saves YOU lot of money, space, and no heavy weight to lug to and from the boat.
I use my fish finder when ever I want to check out a certain area of the river. Normally it is OFF 90 percent of the time I am on the water. It is ON only when I need to check out a spot I intend to fish. I get a number of trips with this setup before I have to buy more batteries.
UPDATE Last year I picked up a 12 volt motorcycle battery at a yard sale for $2. Then a little later I bought a battery charger at a garage sale for about $5. The batter is rechargeable so just before I go out in my boat I recharge it, so it is now fully powered to go when I get on the water. I now no longer worry that I will get out there and thendiscover the batter is too weak to run the fish finder. I believe you maybe able to find a battery charger cheap at some yard or garage sale. Then even buying a motorcycle battery at an auto parts store is going to save you money and provide better power to the fish finder in the long run.
